St. Maria Faustina Kowalska

St. Maria Faustina Kowalska is recognised by the Church as the "Apostle of Divine Mercy" and  is considered to be one  of the Churches outstanding mystics and saints, with a Divine Mercy message relevant for our times.


Baptised 'Helena', she was the third of ten children; born on 25th August 1905 into a poor and religious family of peasants. Helena  was brought up in a village (Glogowiec) situated in the heart of Poland.  Her schooling was very limited with about 3 years of formal education.


At the age of seven Helena was already sensing her calling to the religious life; and although her effects to realise her calling were initially thwarted, she did however, enter the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy on the 1st August 1925. On entry into the congregation, Helena received the name Sr. Maria Faustina.


Her mystical experiences involved spiritual communion with Jesus in a unique way. This has opened up and enabled an avenue of God's Grace for all of His children - An ocean of Mercy which was to envelope the world in a wonderful way.  St. Faustina spent her entire life striving for an even fuller union with God; co-operating with Jesus in the work of saving saving souls.  Her diary (which Jesus instructed her to keep) has recorded many of these mystical experiences, and is now accessible and shared with the whole world - Its purpose being to make known the message of  God's Divine Mercy.
